Susan M. Doak, LPC

Susan Melendez Doak, LPC brings over 20 years to her practice, delivered in multiple settings across the United States. Growing up overseas as a multi-racial “third culture kid,” Susan understands times of transition and change.

“We all face struggles and unforeseen challenges that can leave us feeling lost and hopeless. I offer counseling that helps clients to find a path forward through life’s biggest challenges.” -Susan M. Doak, LPC

Therapy Practice

Susan is the owner of Newberg Counseling & Wellness and holds an active LPC license in the state of Oregon. Her areas of clinical expertise include maternal mental health, adolescent and family issues, anxiety and depression, trauma, grief, and transition issues. Currently, she is seeing adults 18+ for individual counseling—in person and online. She welcomes clients from all walks of life: international clients, creatives, BIPOC clients, LGBTQ clients, and clients who simply want to enjoy life again, but don’t know where to start.

Clinical Supervision and Sustainable Practice

In addition, Susan enjoys working with other counselors and healthcare workers through one-on-one therapy (counselors need counseling too!) and education to prevent and treat burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. She developed a model called Sustainable Practice in 2023 to address the crisis of burnout for mental health clinicians. She partners with clinicians and practice owners as a consultant and guide in the private practice landscape. As an Oregon Registered Clinical Supervisor Susan also works with counselors in training to build a joyful long-lasting career.

Group Practice

Susan started Newberg Counseling & Wellness as a group practice in November of 2018 with the purpose of providing high quality mental health services to Newberg, Oregon and the surrounding communities. We now work with clients all over Oregon to offer counseling services with providers who take the time to listen and understand your needs. We deeply care about our clients and believe in their ability to grow in ways they could never have imagined. We hire licensed therapists and professional counselor associates who are great at their craft and passionate about their work.
