Heidi Hopkins, MA

Professional Counseling Associate (Clinical Supervisor: Elizabeth Shields, LMFT)

Are you looking for a counselor to join with you in your journey toward greater wholeness and mental health? Here is what Heidi has to say about working with clients:

“I believe in and wholeheartedly trust the client’s own inner knowing about where they are, what they need, and what is right for them—even if they aren’t quite sure of this yet themselves. My approach as a therapist is to help the client access this core self underneath all of the patterns that have inevitably developed over the years in order to survive. I like to create unpressured space for clients’ most authentic thoughts, feelings, and impulses to emerge and find expression and deep acceptance. From there we can collaborate on steps toward change, creating new patterns, and coming into greater alignment with values.”

Therapy Practice

In her therapy practice, Heidi works with adults as well as teens middle school age and older presenting with a variety of mental health and relational needs. Some of these needs might include depression symptoms, anxiety, grief and loss, parenting, family conflict, trauma, life changes and adjustments. Heidi offers a safe place for her clients to learn skills for self-compassion, emotion regulation, and greater interpersonal effectiveness. This work is supported by Heidi’s training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Somatic Psychotherapy methods.

Education and Experience

Heidi holds a M.A. in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark College and has seven years of training and experience as a mindfulness educator. Heidi is skilled at debunking the rigid instructions people often associate with “mindfulness” and helping them find their own innate and natural capacity for centering themselves and calming their nervous system. In addition to secular, neuroscience-based practices, Heidi has 20 years of experience supporting children and adults in their spiritual journey, however it is unfolding for them. As a Spiritual Director she has supported a wide range of people as they transition in and out of different traditions, worldviews, and practices, or seek tools for deepening an existing spiritual practice. For clients wanting to incorporate spirituality into their therapy work, Heidi is able to work within your spiritual or religious framework as a part of addressing your mental health needs.

Interests

In her free time, Heidi enjoys reading and learning, being present with her loved ones, being in nature, joking around, African and Cuban music and dance, and enjoying people from cultures different than her own.

Diverse Clients Welcome

Heidi welcomes clients from diverse backgrounds, including those identifying as LGBTQ, Black, Indigenous, and people of color as well as those identifying as multi-racial or international.

Heidi is able to take Providence Health Plan, YCCO insurance (Oregon Health Plan in Yamhill County) and is able to see clients for an out of pocket fee.
